The RacingDiffs BMW 168 mm Performance LSD Insert is a high performance limited slip differential for BMW vehicles with the small 168 mm differential case. It is built for drift, circuit racing, rally, hill climb, time attack and spirited road driving, improving traction under acceleration and through corners while keeping the rear axle stable and predictable.

  • Fits: BMW E21 323i, BMW E30 316i / 318i / 318is, BMW E36 316i / 318i / 318is / 318ti, BMW Z3 1.8i / 1.9i, all with the 168 mm small case differential
  • Material: Fully forged case and internal components
  • Clutch pack: 4x molybdenum ceramic shoes with high thermal resistance
  • Adjustable ramp angles: 30/30 degrees for an aggressive 2 way lock suited to drift, 30/60 degrees as a universal 1.5 way setting for rally, hill climb, circuit and time attack, and 50/65 degrees for a smoother lock suited to everyday driving with occasional sport use
  • Standard configuration: 50/65 degrees
  • Recommended oil: Ravenol Racing 75W140 or a quality LSD oil
  • Recommended backlash: 0.06 to 0.08 mm

Installation

Correct preload, gear backlash and pinion position must be set using shims during installation. Target backlash on most BMW gear sets is 0.06 to 0.08 mm. Correct setup is important for the gear contact pattern, noise, temperature and differential life, so installation by a shop experienced with BMW differential setup is recommended.
